Many OEMs and foundries outsource machining of castings and forgings. Done right, it frees capacity and cuts cost; done wrong, it means scrap castings and missed schedules. Use this checklist when selecting a machining partner in Pune.
1. Fixturing and process planning
Castings vary; good fixtures locate on the right datums every time. Ask how the supplier plans fixtures and the operation sequence for your part.
2. Machine capability
Check the machine list: VMC table size and travels, 4th-axis capability, CNC turning capacity. The right machine avoids extra setups and errors.
3. First-article and in-process inspection
Insist on a full dimensional report on CMM for samples, and in-process checks on critical bores, faces and threads in production.
4. Casting defect handling
Agree how blowholes, porosity and hard spots found during machining are reported and segregated, so you are only charged fairly.
5. On-time delivery
Ask for delivery performance and how schedules are planned. A partner near your plant reduces transit time and risk.
